Giant Attack

Giant Attack (level 13)

It’s a quiet and calm day in Daggerford, the city where you’re temporarily staying, when it’s suddenly attacked by something unseen before! A horde of giants and giant kin are marching on the city! The fiefdom’s militia is struggling to deal with the sheer power of them but is barely managing to hold them back from the city walls, but they know that if they manage to breach the gates Daggerford is doomed. Will the party be able to protect most of Daggerford, or will the giants reclaim the lands they once owned?

Equipment

  • 2 potions of any quality

  • 2 rare > magic items

Plot Overview

  1. On a nice and warm Spring day in Daggerford warning bells suddenly start ringing just before a giant crossbow bolt destroys a wall of a house! The party can see the whole militia rushing to protect the Farmers’ Gate.

  2. After troops (guards) and their generals (knights) have established defensive positions but are struggling to go on the offensive. Their effort seems futile based on the number of giants approaching, until Duchess Lady Morwen Daggerford (war priest of Tempus with a great sword instead of a maul) joins the battle and quickly strategizes a plan to separate the individual forces and weaken them that way.

  3. After requesting the party’s service (by promising a reward) she leads them and some militia members on top of the walls to gain a better perspective on the battle.

  4. The giant forces consist of 1 Ogre Battering Ram trying to break down the Farmers’ Gate, 1 Mouth of Grolantor eating cattle and fleeing farmers alike, 1 Ogre Bolt Launcher 100 feet away from the gate taking shots at the ballista /soldiers up on the wall.

  5. Lady Daggerford commands the gate to be opened so the party and her can deal with the nearest ogre. After he’s been dealt with Morwen will bring out a squad of soldiers to deal with the Bolt Launcher so the party can take out the rampaging ogre at the farms 40 feet away.

  6. Once the ogres are all finished Lady Daggerford will rally the militia to carry the party to the Duchess’ castle in a make-shift parade for the heroes! While in the castle the party will have earned the best feast they’ve ever had. They’ll even be allowed to sleep in any inn of their choice for free!

  7. After the characters leave the inn warning bells will ring again, this time coming from the Caravan Gate causing the remaining militia members to rush into formation. They’ll beg for the party’s help again since a dragon was spotted flying alongside another armored giant.

  8. Lady Daggerford will lead the fight despite warnings from the council of the town, “I owe these heroes my life, Daggerford would be near rubble without them!” However, she does take the precaution of using her Blessing of Valhalla (2d4+2 divine berserker spirits) that she got Tempus early in her rule.

  9. The new force contains the true leader of the initial attack and some shock troops: Euphrates the Fire Giant who made a truce with Sazerac the Young Red Dragon to wipe out humans in order to restore the kingdoms of giants and dragons respectively, 2d4+2 Ogrillons were sent in front to overwhelm to gates (they’ll focus on and be focused on by the ballistae and wall forces).

  10. If, during the battle, most of the party is down and Morwen has already expended her 5th level spell slot she’ll pray to Tempus for salvation and the god will answer! The clouds part as a Ki-rin flies down in a pillar of light and casts mass heal to bring every party member, Morwen Daggerford, and some generals to full health before ascending back to heaven!

  11. After this final battle the party is granted an even greater reward than before: 2,500 gold pieces total, property in Daggerford, and a blessing from Tempus (Boon of Luck to each character as the symbol of Tempus appearing on the back of their necks). They’re celebrated as heroes and treated like nobility by everyone in Daggerford.
